Story: Necessity or hobby

I visited Los Angeles and Japan in the fall of 2022. I little surprised by how easy to live in Japan. I used Airbnb in LA. It was an unfurnished room for CA$900. I spend a hotel in Namba, Osaka. It costs CA$35. One tiny bedroom, but everything I need was there, such as WiFi, desk, bathroom, AC, close to a convenience store, restaurant and transportation, etc. It was super comfortable.

I also compared LAX/YVR(Vancouver International Airport) and HND(Haneda Airport). To be honest, I don’t excite about shopping in LAX/YVR. In HND, it has too many shops and I could not choose 1. I thought in Asia, people buy souvenirs for relatives. Very contrast.

Generally speaking, we have enough stuff. there are a lot of unnecessary stuff in our life. Therefore, a seller cannot sell products easily. In 2022, live commerce is a trend. It has started in China a few years ago. I assume that it is not a new business category. I saw it often on TV when I grew up in Japan. It is old fashion in my impression, but the platform, the way to deliver the information and connect with the audience has changed.

I searched what makes people the excitement about live commerce, and why people buy from it.

– Sense of urgency(limited offer during live streaming is a good idea)

As this video shows, Chinese tech influences the United States. In daily life in North America, I don’t have a chance to see Chinese trend programs. I don’t know how to follow the Chinese trend in English in Canada. Bloomberg Technology sometimes picks it up, but it is not frequent.

Either online or offline, waiting for a customer is dated. Everyone needs to adapt to this trend regardless of personal preference.

The founder looks Chinese American? In this case, people cannot say copycat to China.

Conclusion: Contradict

I look at both countries (or areas) the United States(and Canada) and Japan(Asia). I feel that Asia is much more convenient for life compared to the United States, but global businesses, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, etc… are born in the United States. Asian relatively admires the United States, lifestyle and culture. I am wondering about this circumstance.

My current conclusion is that life is not pursuing convenience. Life is meeting people beyond nationality. Therefore, I am in Canada and I will be there at least right now. I will keep eye on how the Chinese trend influences the United States next decade.
