Story: Education revolution

I believe that people are given a basic right to education. In Japan, it’s a duty to attend a junior high school. 90% of kids normally attend high school. The majority of students move forward to 2-4 years of College.

Under the coronavirus pandemic, it’s a great opportunity to think about education and learning something new skills. Many people have realized that the current education system has not been prepared well for a real work environment. I would like to know the history of education, problem and what choices we have. Education is a good industry as a business as well. If you come up with an idea, you can startup.

The History of Education

The current education system was built in the 1800s, during an industrial revolution. People insisted that education should be for everyone and it’s for free. Many countries followed this principle.

Our technology is significantly improved in 200 years. Everyone says our education system does not fit the current era. We have to consider what education should be.

Looks like we need to update how we educate kits in school. The test which requires memorizing textbooks is not so valuable in 2022. Birthplace impacts on kids it inevitable. This is one of the reasons people move to the country. In my case, it’s in Canada. I cannot afford to study abroad for my kids if I am in Asia. I grew up in Aisa and it was typical education, memorizing text over and over again. I don’t know how it was valuable for me.

I don’t know why this video mentions Latin words often even though it is the root of English. It was not interesting and I could not forcus on the history.

6 Problems with our School System

The video mentions the current education problems very logically and concisely. I agree with that.

– Current education system developed 100 years ago, industrial age.
– More creative, communicate with others, more collaborative.
– Education did not prepare for the real work situation.
– Children only follow the rules.
– Require too much memorization. Then, forget after the exam.
– The most important topics are:
– – What am I good at?
– – What do I want to do?
– – How to fit the world?
– Too much lecturing.
– Each child is different learning speeds.

e-Learning platform

In May, society has gradually opened. Regardless of it, we have to keep learning. There is a lot of online course at an affordable price. We cannot excuse avoiding learning. What I’m curious about learning subjects are below:

– Marketing
– SEO
– Video editing / iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects
– Basic coding, Java Script
– Virtual tour creation
– Drone
– 3D Printing

I mainly use Udemy for learning SEO, marketing, and programming. Every year, I purchase courses on Black Friday for the holiday season. There is a mobile APP. So, you can learn wherever you are. Just you need a motivation.

I often hear SkillShare when I am watching YouTube. In my image, SkillShare mainly focuses on the creative course, graphic, illustration, photo, video, animation, etc… and I am not looking for it.

I personally need to learn to code, but I know that I am not good at it. Coding skill is essential for the kids and they will learn as mandatory. So, I don’t think I can compete with the current kids. Therefore, I am focusing on SEO and marketing rather than coding.

As a business, they can collaborate with the school and corporation to learn code. That’s a big opportunity for Codecademy.

I am not clear on what the strength is. Good for teachers, they have many platform to upload their courses.

MasterClass is a little different positioning. An educator is only the top runner. Their video will be a strong asset in the future. Everyone dies someday, but wisdom takes over to the next generation.

Thinkfic is a platform that creates and sells online courses, builds vibrant communities, and monetizes memberships – all on a single, scalable platform. I don’t understand what I can learn on Thinkfic.

LinkedIn bought Lynda.com in 2017. This naturally becomes LinkedIn Learning. I don’t have an interesting experience on Lynda.com. Video learning really depends on the instructor. It is easy to become bored. Job and learning are inseparable, but I am still using Udemy.

Conclusion: Learning is equally for everyone

In 2022, inequality obviously exists in the world. People of some countries are still looking for water/food each day. Even so, a country should provide education to every citizen.

e-Learning may solve this issue. We who grew up in developed countries complain about e-Learning. It’s boring, cannot focus, no interaction etc. I cannot deny that. I don’t think there is 100% right or wrong. There is a learning opportunity in front of us.
