Story: A template makes users misunderstand
When people make Shopify ecommerce websites themselves, they use templates. Shopify has many templates. People somehow pick it up. They do replace images and copies. In the end, it looks something different from what they want. This is a typical situation.
Templates are made by a design agency. They use professional photos, color,s and typography. They know Liquid, Shopify programming. It makes users attractive. However, once a user tries to Shopify ecommerce website personalize, such as replacing logo, or changing the image and color, the outcome looks different.
I am a Shopify partner and even a web designer, I sometimes trap to templates. I display all design elements on the page and test the setting of each element. I cannot find the setting which is used on the demo page. It makes me frustrated.
I have a task for Shopify ecommerce websites. This is a process of try and error. You may face the same issue when you make a Shopify ecommerce website.
Shopify Template(Themes)
Compared with WordPress templates, Shopify templates are small collections and expensive. I checked some of them, but I did not so excited. However, The ecommerce store does not have to be design-focused. Please see Amazon. Amazon dominates the market in North America, but it is not fun to design. Amazon focuses on customer experience.
Use the free theme first. That’s enough for MVP. Once you check the Shopify UI, please absorb the templates. You can get some design ideas and some of them are copyable even with different themes.

What I am confused about are the template and page. I wanted to edit a single page, but the template interrupted it. I don’t know how to override each page. I was provided paid template, but I don’t know how to use the demo page on Shopify. I need to edit the code to install the custom fonts. Inconvenience. Shopify can work for UI more.

I recently learned about the home collection. People usually have several collections based on the category. The home collection allows users to show the products across categories. Sounds logical.
You don’t have to focus on the quality of the logo, but no logo on the website may look strange to a user. MVP or public quickly is better than thinking great idea for 3 months. A great-looking Shopify website that does not sell your product is nothing value.
A template that sells for $100 per month is great to start. The Shopify subscription cost is $29 per month. Your Shopify website has to cover it at least.

I understand how to create a template and how it works. I need to know how to override the template. I cannot find a visual editor for the page. It connects to a template and it influences all pages which are assigned.

Actually, her action is smart. Check Amazon and competitors, then thinking about user behavior is a great start. The product page looks not so good, but if a shop owner can sell a product through Shopify, no one can criticize it.

Conclusion: Enjoy process
Some design agencies are only focused on 1 specific area, branding, pitch deck, tradeshow, or ecommerce website. That’s the basic business principle and I understand that. However, I personally cannot use my skills for only 1 specific area. I do want to use my knowledge for client business growth as much as possible. This is not good for business, but good for designers. We can keep learning and push our boundaries.
Ecomemrce website is a good outcome to recognize value for clients. I am always welcome to a new ecommerce project to increase client sales.
